The Curiosity Approach and What it is?

The staff at Little Ducks are passionate about helping children learn and grow; we do this by using the Curiosity Approach.

The Curiosity Approach in essence means that we use natural/real items that the Little Ducks can use to build their imaginations, inquisitiveness and curiosity.

We as staff have noticed the change in the children’s behaviour and the way they play individually as well as in groups. They also have developed the want to learn and are constantly asking questions.

“The Curiosity Approach is a modern day approach to Early Childhood. Taking parts from the Reggio Emilia approach, Steiner, Te Whariki with a sprinkle of Monessori.

This is a Modern day approach that fits perfectly in the changing technological times. Bringing curiosity, awe and wonder into early childhood and creating “thinkers and doers” of the future.”

Activities

We provide a variety of activities for the Little Ducks, all planned according to the age and stage of development that your child is at. We have a range of natural equipment for children of varying ages which is maintained and updated on a regular basis.

We provide activities that support the main learning areas;

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Creativity

Visits and Outings

We enjoy taking the children on regular outings to the park, around the village, and to the shop. We also attend the Little Ducks Toddler Group for singing, we also visit Ridgeway school to play and use different equipment, also visiting the church too.

We have been building strong links with Richmond Village and we try to take a group of children from Little Ducks once a fortnight on the Richmond Village Minibus which is a great experience for the children.

Any out-of-the-ordinary trips will require separate signed permission forms.

Key Person

Our Key Person system gives each member of staff particular responsibility for just a few children. Each child in the group has one special adult to relate to, which can make settling into the group very much easier. In addition, the Key Person is in a position to tailor the group curriculum to the unique needs of each individual child. The Key Person works with parents through shared record-keeping to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.

Ridgeway C.E (C) Primary School

We have very close links with the Ridgeway School and all the children have the opportunity to visit. By the time our children begin in the Reception Class, they will have met their teacher and be familiar with the school environment. Children who go on to different Primary Schools, benefit immensely from their time at Little Ducks and are familiar with daily routines and an introduction to a school setting, through a broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum, based on how young children learn.
